Year 11 Spring Term English
During the Spring terms, Year 11 students will focus on fact-finding and presenting. They’ll develop modern communication skills through vlogging, learn techniques for debating effectively, and practice building logical arguments. Speaking and Listening components will be integrated throughout this work. Students will also engage in literary exposure activities designed to build their cultural capital and broaden their understanding of literature and the world.
In the later part of the Spring term, Year 11 students will work on short topics that may include current affairs, new book releases, author visits, and areas of specific interest to the cohort. They’ll participate in targeted skills workshops to address individual learning needs and practice test-taking strategies to prepare them for their examinations.
Year 11 Spring Term Maths
This term, pupils will continue working towards the qualification pathway that best suits their needs. The focus will be on:
- Building fluency in number bonds and times tables and applying this knowledge to solve problems involving ratio, rounding, and proportion
- Strengthening skills in data handling, position and direction, money, shape, and measures
- Using the correct mathematical vocabulary to tackle word problems confidently
Where appropriate, pupils will take part in assessment weeks, giving them the chance to show what they know and can do. These assessments help identify any gaps or misconceptions, which will then be addressed through targeted teaching.
Year 11 Spring Term Science
Explore Chemistry & Forces – What Your Child Will Learn
- Heavy Metal? – Children learn about the properties of metals, why different metals are used for different purposes, and how they are extracted from ores. They also explore the energy, cost, and environmental impact of these processes.
- Everything in its Place – They discover that all substances are made of atoms and learn about protons, neutrons, and electrons. They explore how the Periodic Table is organised and how it helps predict the behaviour of elements.
- Novel Materials – Children learn about smart materials, composites, and alloys, and how their special properties make them useful in modern technology.
- Driving Along – They explore how forces act on vehicles, affecting motion, stability, and braking, and how car design and safety features use these principles to keep passengers safe.
Year 11 Spring Term Religion and Ethics
Year 11 – Philosophical and Theological Inquiry
Spring Term – Religion, Morality, and Society

Year 11 Spring Term Work Experience
As part of our commitment to preparing students for life beyond school, Year 11 pupils will take part in a structured work experience programme during the Spring and Summer terms. Students will rotate through four placement settings, spending one half term in each. These include Animal Care & Outdoor Work at Restore Hope, Childcare at Denham Village School, Care Work at Beaconsfield Heights Care Home, and Creative & Practical Arts at Wycombe Arts Centre. Each placement takes place on Wednesday mornings, giving students the opportunity to work alongside professionals, develop practical skills, explore potential career pathways, and gain meaningful insight into the world of work.
Year 11 Spring Term PE
This term, pupils will enjoy activities that build confidence, resilience, and physical skills through swimming and gymnastics.
- Gymnastics: Pupils will take on new challenges while learning how to manage risks safely. Working in small groups, they’ll develop balance, control, and coordination by performing supported balances and using a range of apparatus.
- Swimming: Lessons will include fun aqua-based challenges that encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability. Pupils will also learn important water safety skills, including how to manage risk in different water environments, and will be supported to persevere as they master more complex movements.
We’re excited for a term full of learning, confidence-building, and active fun!
Year 11 Spring Term Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
In Year 11, pupils begin the second year of their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award journey.
Having completed their skills and physical sections in Year 10, they now focus on volunteering and expedition training:
-
Volunteering: Pupils complete this in their own time, with many choosing to support school clubs as Sports Leaders or take on Prefect duties during breaks and lunchtimes. These roles help pupils develop responsibility, leadership, and a sense of contribution to the wider school community.
-
Expedition Training: Lessons throughout the year prepare pupils for their assessed expedition in the summer term. This practical training includes learning essential outdoor and teamwork skills such as cooking on a Trangia, navigation and route planning, meal preparation, tent pitching, and building walking proficiency.
This stage of the award is an exciting opportunity for pupils to gain independence, resilience, and life skills that will stay with them long after school.
Year 11 Spring Term PSHE
PSHE at all key stages aims to promote positive well-being and mental health enabling pupils to take responsibility for their learning and future life choices.
