WRL Social Enterprise Ramadan Project

WRL Social Enterprise Ramadan Project This term Year 11 Social Enterprise students have been working on a community project around the theme of Ramadan. This project has taken part in two phases, Phase 1, Students created an in -school immersive experience designed to educate students and staff about Ramadan and it’s importance as a Muslim celebration.  Phase 2 was focused on celebrating Ramadan within our wider community, this included Year 11 students designed a range of Ramadan inspired packaging that were filled with sweet treats to distribute through a local Mosque.

School Council News School Council have been busy this term with many activities. Our first was International Women’s Day where the students learned about Emily Davidson, Katherine Johnson, Mary Earps and the fourth activity was glow in the dark football as it was also the Girls Can Play initiative. The school was buzzing with excitement, and they all learned a lot whilst having fun. On Comic Relief, the pupils were invited to come in dressed as a teacher. They all looked amazing. Professionals Fayre – Tuesday 16th April Alfriston School will be playing host to a wide range of professionals and institutions who will be available to talk with you and your child about the opportunities available to them at post 16 and post 18. All Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 students will be off timetable for the day so that parents/guardians can accompany them around the Fayre. Post 16 Spring Update

Post 16 Spring Update It has been another incredibly busy term for our Post 16 cohort this term. The students have continued to support their community whilst developing their social interaction and teamwork skills at organisations such as the Ark Café, Age UK and Wycombe Food Hub. Many have enjoyed weekly visits to Lady Ryder Garden, Bury Lodge, Missenden Primary School and Beaconsfield Heights Care Home. World Book Day

World Book Day The English department was delighted to play host to a school-wide book swap in honour of World Book Day on March 7th. Every student was able to select a book from a wide variety of generous contributions, and spend some time comparing theirs with those of their friends!  We saw reading, chatting, and exchanging, and students getting excited for books and the stories contained within them. Y8 Residential to Ufton Court

Y8 Residential to Ufton Court We went to Ufton Court and did loads of fun activities in the sunshine. The best activities were making a Flintstone Car, riding the bikes, holding the bunnies, and going to the farm, where we were able to feed the goats and sheep, hide the pigs’ treats and hold the chickens on our shoulders. The Fiesta night was amazing because we had a chicken curry banquet and the largest cake in the world, and we got to dance to the loads of Mexican music. English with Mr Fox In Mr. Fox’s Year 11 English class, students have been honing their speaking and listening abilities in preparation for their Functional Skills Entry Level 2 assessment in the summer term. They’ve delved into the art of respectful debates, mastering the skill of articulating pros and cons effectively. The current focus of their study in speaking and listening is selecting 15 items they would bring to space and presenting their choices through PowerPoint presentations. Bucks Youth Summit

Bucks Youth Summit On the 11th March 9 students from our school from  years 10-13 attended the 2024 Bucks Youth Summit in Aylesbury.  The Summit happened for the first time last year and was such a success Bucks Youth Voice were allowed to run it again.   32 mainstream schools attended along with Alfriston and each students took part in 4 different conversation spaces of their choice during the day.   The conversation spaces were based around the main areas of interest and issues for the youth of Bucks and our students chose from the following topics The feedback about the input and ideas from…
