Covid-19 Update 02.06.20

2nd June 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), I hope you are all well.  We are now into the first week back after the half term, and have begun to put our phased re-opening plan into practice.  This week we are carrying out a trial run of the wider re-opening to test out our plan, with a social bubble per year group being introduced once a week.  Staff are attending this week as per the rota, but the pupils will not be admitted until next week.  We are restricted to keeping the groups to a maximum of 8 to allow for social distancing…

Covid-19 Update 21.05.20

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), I hope you are all well.  Following on from my last update regarding the phased re-opening of schools, we have been evaluating whether and how we might be able to expand the numbers of pupils attending at Alfriston.  Thank you to all those of you who filled in the survey regarding the demand for places, we now have a clear picture of what the take-up will be.  Approximately half of you would like your daughter to return for a reduced time each week, and half of you would prefer to keep your daughters at home.  We have also…

Covid-19 Update 14.05.20

14th May 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), I hope you are all well.  It seems such a long time now since we moved into lockdown but our sense of school community has remained strong, and it has been heartening to see such support being given to one another in so many different forms. There has been a flurry of activity since my last update, with responses from school leaders and others to the government announcement on Sunday regarding the phased re-opening of schools.  Not surprisingly, there is much concern being expressed by both parents and professionals alike.  I want to reiterate that…

Covid-19 Update 11.05.20

11th May 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), I hope you all managed to enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend, and are keeping well. You will have heard the Prime Minister last night indicating that the government believes it may be in a position to implement a phased re-opening of schools from 1 June, starting with pupils in reception, year one and year six.  This is part of the government’s conditional plan which it says will remain under regular review.  We are now waiting to receive more information from government but in the short-term, nothing has changed. At Alfriston we are keen to start…

Covid-19 Update 01.05.20

1st May 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), The lockdown continues . . .   In the Prime Minister’s update last night, he said it was still too early to say when there would be any easing of social distancing measures but that plans were in place to restart the economy, reopen schools and enable people to travel to work safely.  Further information and detail is expected to be released during the course of this week. As with all schools, re-opening will not happen overnight.  There are many decisions and considerations to be made, such as the capacity of staffing, how to manage social…

Covid-19 Update 23.04.20

23rd April 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), I hope that you and your loved ones are all well and adapting to this current situation. School continues to remain open for a few pupils who meet the criteria of having parents who are key workers or who are in a vulnerable situation.  This week we have had between 4 – 7 girls in on any one day, according to individual circumstances.  Not surprisingly, as the lockdown goes on, more families are finding this situation increasingly difficult to cope with and may need some help.  Please contact your pastoral tutor or the school office…

26th March 2020 Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s), Still here!  We now seem to be entering a slightly more settled phase, as the 21-day lockdown period becomes established.  Nearly all of our pupils and staff are staying at home, to ensure minimum contact with others and to help to prevent the spread of this virus.  Today is day 4, so only 17 days to go!  At the end of this period there will be a reassessment of the situation and it is at that time that we will expect further Government direction. In the meantime, we remain open to provide support for our…
