Letter from Headteacher

16th December 2021

Dear Parents/Carers,

This time last year I was writing yet another letter to parents, sitting alone in my office having had to move the whole school to remote learning for the last week.  This year, I am delighted and relieved to be writing this letter having just enjoyed Christmas lunch and carol singing with the girls, and looking forward to more events and activities to come.

The staff and girls have been busy rehearsing and planning for lots of Christmas celebrations, and thankfully we have been able to carry out our plans to make Christmas as special as we can for all the girls to enjoy.  These events are the memories that our girls will take with them for the years to come, those shared experiences that help them to develop their relationships and social interactions.

The Winter Wonderland show was a real treat, showcasing their fantastic talents in dance, drama and music.  The girls have had great fun creating their performances which included creating their own Christmas Panto.  Although we weren’t able to invite parents in, I hope that you were able to watch and enjoy the recording.  We were, however, able to welcome some of you in for our Bazaar, which thanks to your generosity raised a considerable sum to be used for additional extras for our girls.  Along with the brilliant work of our staff who made all this happen, I would also like to thank the Friends of Alfriston for the hard work and support that they have so freely given.

It has been an eventful term and we still have a few challenges ahead of us, but we can now look forward to a New Year.  You all know that our Deputy Headteacher, Rachel Chapman is moving on to a Headship at Chiltern Wood and although we are all delighted for her, we are also going to miss her.  Rachel has been at the school for over 22 years, and is much loved by everyone at Alfriston, past and present.  Her dedication to the school has been immense and selfless, and she has truly left an indelible mark on us all.  We wish her good luck and happiness in her new role.

I wish you all a very Happy Christmas, and a peaceful New Year,

Jinna Male
