Covid-19 Update 20.07.20

20th July 2020

Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s),

We’ve come to the end of the academic year, and plans are in place for September 2020.  What a year!  Despite the unexpected and unplanned situation, we have had many moments to celebrate and new lessons learnt.  I hope that you were able to join with us for the virtual sports day last week to enjoy the challenges.  It was good to see so many girls taking part, showing their usual determination and spirit.

On Friday we held the final assembly of the year, and I was delighted to be able to hold this in the performance space of our new building.  The chairs hadn’t arrived yet, but we were happy to make do and to use our fantastic new sound and vision equipment.  Assemblies may never be the same again!

Friday was also the night to remember in the form of our first (and probably last) virtual prizegiving celebration.  So many girls have been working hard during lockdown, and we couldn’t miss the chance to celebrate their achievements.  Thank you to all the staff who made this possible, both in production and delivery, and of course to all our girls who put the work in to achieve so well.

Reports have been sent home and it was a pleasure for me to read these, looking back on their progress over the year and reminding me of the earlier part of the year when everyone was in school.  Time passes so quickly, and as we said goodbye to our leavers last month and wished them well for their futures, today we are saying hello to the new year 7s who are visiting the school for a tour, with their future at Alfriston ahead of them.

We have a few staff changes for September.  In the wellbeing team, Mrs Wattley has had a beautiful baby boy and is on maternity leave now, with Mrs Taylor covering as mental health worker.  Mrs Glanville is moving on to another post, and we are welcoming Miss Brown back into the team.  Elsewhere, Mrs Bentley has been appointed as our new English teacher; we are saying a sad farewell but well done and good luck to Miss Potts who is going to train to become a teacher and welcoming Miss Hines as our new support assistant working mostly in the performing arts.

In my last letter I outlined the plans for reopening for September, and you will be receiving further details of this in a separate letter.  Meanwhile, enjoy the Summer break, and we look forward to seeing all the girls back in school for a new school year.

With kind regards,

Jinna Male
