Hours are during school term time but we are looking to expand to other evenings, weekends, 1-2-1’s and holiday crash courses.

We are looking for an enthusiastic swimming teacher, who has level 2 teaching qualification. The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching to a high standard, achieving results, whilst providing a safe & fun environment for our customers.

About Alfriston School

Alfriston is an outstanding Special School with Sports College status for girls aged 11-19 with moderate learning difficulties and speech and language and communication difficulties. We currently have 150 girls on roll. We became an Academy on 1st March 2012.  The school has been delivering high quality education since 1950. All the pupils have a statement of special educational needs and are taught in small groups and with additional support.  Our staff are specialist subject teachers and are experienced in working with a range of special needs and abilities.

Pupils attend Alfriston from all over Buckinghamshire and some neighbouring counties. We also have weekly boarding provision for 20 pupils.

We consider the staff team as our most valuable resource. Training and development is a high priority in the school. There is also personal support given to staff to manage the diverse and challenging work needed to support pupils with significant special needs.

At present there are 55 staff employed at the school working in the teaching, support, residential and administrative teams.  We are proud of the excellent standard of education provided at Alfriston.

About the Pool

The Swimming Pool was completed in July 2014 and opened in September 2014.  It is currently used for our pupils on a weekly basis and we have also welcomed a number of independent adult and baby groups. 

About the Role

Key Objectives

  1. To teach customers to swim using the set pool syllabus.
  2. To be able to teach or assist with all levels of swimmers including Adult & Child, beginners to advance swimmers.
  3. To assess customers to ensure they move effectively through the progression of the set syllabus.
  4.  To maintain vigilant supervision of your class users and ensure their safety at all times.
  5.  To deal with customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  6. To ensure the comfort, safety and enjoyment of all course users.
  7. To administer first aid, effect pool rescues and carry out resuscitation as necessary.
  8. To comply with the Pools Health and Safety procedures at all times.
  9. To report any matter of concern to the Pool Manager/ Pool Supervisor immediately.
  10. To ensure the facility is clean for customers to use.
  11. To wear the prescribed staff uniform at all times.
  12. To wear the personal protective equipment provided when necessary during the course of your duties.
  13. To prepare activity areas involving the setting up/dismantling of equipment.
  14. To ensure that all Pool equipment is stored safely and securely when not in use.
  15. To report any maintenance issues using the appropriate procedures.
  16. To assist the Pool Manager/Pool Supervisor with any tasks involved in the operation of the Pool.
  17. To maintain any suggested training requirements and key performance indicators and competency standards.

Health and Safety

As a member of staff you are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your colleagues and customers using the facilities in which you work.  Therefore, you must have knowledge of the Company's Health & Safety Policy and relevant instructions to your area of work.  Any matter which you consider requires attention in this respect it is your responsibility to report to your manager following the correct procedures, or to the Health and Safety Co-ordinator.  Copies of the current Health & Safety Policy and Safety Procedures are available in the Facility.
